Police are at construction sites to deter people from speeding. I don't think it's optional, and it's also considered an "extra duty" job- not paid for bu the city or state, but paid by the construction company. Having a police officer at a construction site or at any road work site became necessary after a few construction workers were killed by speeders and others disregarding traffic safety and laws.

This is a huge problem. I have spoken with a few police officers about paying more attention in assisting pedestrians across the road when there are dangerous low visibility situations caused by the construction they are monitoring.

I agree police should be attentive at the sites. I live near a bunch of them and the officers are always very attentive and helpful.

Is there a more specific list somewhere that describes what the officers' responsibilities are? That would allow people to point to something...

Ben how did you avoid getting arrested. I spoke to an officer this morning on State st. because of the inability to be able to see to turn turn and he just told me to move on.

I was very polite with him and he was very polite back. The next time I crossed he helped me out right away.

Its not there fault as much as it is their training which tells them apparently to only look out for the interests of cars.

The police disregard for pedestrians in New Haven in general is a systemic issue that needs to be addressed by those in charge. The Mayor if need be in the absence of a strong police Chief.
