Sorry mate, I think this is a terrible idea. A daycare is meant to be a safe place for kids. That safety depends a lot on restricting access to the general public. The security of those 100 kids needs to be the first consideration.

It's a big parcel of land; as long as the day care building (and its playground - I assume it would have one) can be secured, there is no reason not to also have a community room.

Of course, that all depends on the developer...a community room would have to be staffed and maintained which means more cost. Does the city have any fund to cover this sort of thing? The Science Park Development Corporation wants a day care as an amenity for their tenants, the article says. I wonder how much supporting the local community factors into their plans.

I'm not sure who would pay or if there could be a separate community foundation grant for this.

The city is giving away the land for little money. Maybe it could be a contingency.

Right SB...and no one is in there yet. I kinda wish we'd get a good indie coffee shop with wifi down in there. But a community internet room isn't a terrible idea either.

indie coffee shop is exactly the idea i had,too! it's perfect--folks getting coffee in a.m. on way from car /garage to work. then folks crossing over from science park for lunch. i work up the hill on prospect and there is NOTHING within easy walking distance to grab coffee.

i think this is a good idea, i am trying to do something like this in the newhallville area for sometime now. i would really love to get involved with something like this.

If Win Stanley would provide a discounted rent to a group like Javaughn's in that space that would be great.

A coffee shop sounds like a viable business as well.

Regarding the garage 1st floor: Daycare, coffee shop, deli-style breakfast/lunch counter, gym, dry cleaners - all would be readily welcome by tenants of Science Park, and would benefit the local community, too.

I think the need for this w/ a technology focus for young kids might be really welcomed given all of the violence in the neighborhood as of late.

I am closing this issue as I just found out that Monterey Place does in fact have computers and web access and that "Our Place" has computers in Newhallville.
