If they applied a fraction of the alacrity with which they fuss over ball parks and "grooming" the sand on the beaches, the city would look much better. Add to that the complete absence of any enforcement of ordinances regulating how and when and what kind of trash gets put out, and no wonder why this city is such a mess....literally a mess.
Let me elaborate on that last point: I have repeatedly reported -- both directly to a police officer as well as via MyPD -- gross violations, including this most recent bulk trash exTRASHaganza, and nothing was done. This included a resident who put out what was obvious (piled loosely on the sidewalk) and not so obvious (black plastic bags) construction debris, FIVE DAYS ahead of scheduled pick-up. All of it was picked up, with apparently no consequences, and this isnt' the first time she's gotten away with it, and thanks to absence of enforcement, won't be the last time, either.
Re the storm drains - it's also a shame that people continue to blow grass clippings into the streets and throw litter in public spaces. From the pic posted, I'd say we all play a role in keeping West Haven cleaner.
I agree we ALL need to help keep the city cleaner but does that include enforcing laws ( like the trash issue ) and cleaning the street drains ? I sweep in front of my house all the time to keep the street clean I have not seen a street cleaner truck since 2004.. But I am NOT going to go around on the main roads and clean storm drains
