Corner of Grand Ave and Rowland. There is no stop light on Rowland here which creates a very dangerous situation. Cars go extremely fast forcing drivers crossing Rowland to rush across.
I think a roundabout makes more sense. This way cars are not stopped needlessly during off-hours, but during rush hour we all can get through this intersection more safely.
I agree about some type of traffic device either stop light or 4 way stop sign. Motorcycle and accident here last night. Speed limit on Rowland too high, shouldn't be 55. Reduce the speed limit too.
NO Round-a-bout! The traffic here backs up too far during SPAC concerts. A light is necessary due to the fact that people travel too fast and are not aware of traffic pulling out from Grand Avenue. There is a monthly accident at this corner. It has improved since they fixed the banking on the curve but it is still unsafe. The speed limit also should not be 55. If you witnessed these accidents on a regular basis, you would realize that something has to be done. The recent accident involving a motorcycle is not the first. Also, due to the fact that there is are several neighborhoods in the area, there several young inexperienced drivers who have not learned to be defensive drivers yet, and have caused many of these accidents. A light would solve the speed problem as well as making others aware of turning traffic. Thank you.
Traffic lights waste electricity and gas, and don't work during power failures, which this area is prone to. Roundabouts are a very passive way to safely move traffic, and younger drivers do quite well with them. You are 100% correct that the speed limit is too high - but there is no law that one must drive at that speed - I make a point to drive 40 through this area, because I know the hazards on that road.
No roundabout! I take a left from Grand onto Rowland all the time and I rarely have to wait for more than 3 or 4 cars to pass by. How does SPAC traffic factor into this anyway? I do agree that 55 is too high for the speed limit here. Usually I find myself going 45 comfortably, and I'm no old grandma driver.
Where in the world is the police to enforce traffic laws? Its either the local police step up and do their jobs, or unfortunately, the responsibility is left up to the regular commuters!
The NYS DOT is currently reviewing the speed limit on this section of road.... This isn't a public opinion poll, but nevertheless, to give input, you could call Director Mary Ivey, or engineer Reed Sholtes at the Schenectady Regional district office (518-388-0388)
A reduced speed limit wold be a good first step. I imagine that a traffic light would increase accidents in the winter since it can be a very slick intersection on the best of winter days.
NEEDS TO BE A 4 WAY STOP SIGN AT THE VERY LEAST. THERE IS NEW NEW SPPED LIMIT, BUT NO ENFORCEMENT. THIS INTERSECTION IS VERY DANGEROUS AND A 4 WAY STOP SIGN WILL HELP DRIVERS SAFELY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION.
This is a perfect intersection for a round-about. Once you learn how to use one, you'll come to see that they are very useful. Last week I turned left (south) onto Rowland from Grand Ave. The car behind me turned left as well, then proceeded to pass me on a double yellow, totally blind uphead, doing about 60MPH. He was most likely a Navy kid, as it was a sporty car with out-of-state plates. I know some of you locals (I'm one as well) do not like change, but we MUST consider safety first. We'll adapt, trust me.
