with so many people crossing here, why is it just an ambiguous strip of bricks laid down in the center of asphalt for drivers to speed over while i am trying to cross the street?

Agreed, there should be a painted and raised crosswalk here. The three-lane street actually makes speeding quite common and in fact there are already several other SCF markers regarding traffic at this location.
Also, a number of pedestrians have actually been hit at this location, which is used by residents of all ages.
Come to the Downtown management team's neighborhood workshop tomorrow morning (Sat 5/8) at 830 am at Conte School to discuss how the group will address specific concerns like these.

this is no longer a strip of bricks, just smooth asphalt.
most of the time drivers have a red light at the intersection of temple. what would be so bad about slowing for pedestrians to cross before stopping a few yards away anyways?!?
