The light coming down Fair St. is way too long. Why can't it be green at the same time as the plaza's exit? You're giving priority to private property over a city street. If the light was simultaneously green in both directions, the worst that would happen is that people would have to wait to take a left turn out of the plaza for those coming down Fair into the plaza. This is no different than other intersections; you always wait for oncoming traffic to take a left turn. This would shorten the wait for in all directions as there would be only two green-light cycles instead of 3.

This light seemed to be hard-set and it doesn't matter what time of day. I'm a shopper and I would rather use Clinton to go home when I'm leaving Kingston, but it turns out I'm better off adding to the wear and tear on the parking lot behind True Value Hardware so I can make the right turn out the the Plaza and be on my merry way, so perhaps that "private property" owner might reconsider his position. I drive a sedan, but there's lots of other types of vehicles doing the same thing.

The city needs to rethink its goals and leadership. Without proper roads, streets and avenues are city will remain in limbo like it has for the past few decades.

the amount of gas burned at that intersection for NO reason is insane. there is barely ever any actual traffic there. I think stop sign would be just as effective...

Still not fixed!!! Whoever times these lights should consult whoever times them at Albany Ave./Broadway/Col. Chandler Dr. It's the smoothest running intersection in Kingston.
Many issues here are resolved, I don't understand why this one is being ignored. That speed bump behind True Value is wearing down...

I note people running the light after seeing no one else is in view of the light. Fix the light and put this to rest or is this a 3 month debate like North Front and Wall st?

Another get-around if you're lucky enough (!) to be the first to catch the light and the way is clear is to make the right into the Plaza lot and then exit the lot. Better than sittin' there idling uselessly in the heat.

that's what I do. I hate it when I am the 2nd car and the one in front of me doesn't figure it out.

Your closed response is unacceptable. We represent many more people--probably everyone who get's stuck at that stupid intersection, and we want it fixed. Reset the timer. 2 minutes for each direction and one minute for those making a turn. It will keep things flowing.

Maybe we should all just ignore the light. Use common sense and go thru it when it is safe to do so. If there isn't any funding to fix it, maybe there isn't funding to enforce it either.
I wish I had a job where I could close issues just by ignoring the problem.
I agree - this is unacceptable! The other thing I wonder about is how many people end up not shopping at the plaza because of this. Perhaps the businesses should complain to their aldermen directly.

If the City cant afford it, maybe it can be added to the next budget, or maybe there is some emergency budgeting that can be done to address the concerns of citizens?

With limited understanding about what it would take it seems (unfortunately apparent) that lashing out is the response first on this board message. I would like to see an Alderman Respond to this. It is unfortunate to see this level of immaturity on both sides.

Please accept my apology, my response was not intended to be short. I had included a more explicit response when I had closed this out but somehow that part of the comment was lost. Not sure what I did wrong. We were asked to monitor this site and have been trying to do so and I have been trying to respond to as many of the posts as I can w/ an explaination. I am just as frustrated as any of the motorists travelling this intersection. The signalling equipment is antiquated. During the past few months our electrician has tried several different sequences on the lights to try and move traffic quicker. In order to make the necessary changes to this traffic control system, it would cost an estimated $50,000.00 to 75,000.00.
There simply is no money in the departments budget to make this modification. Sorry.. that we can not fix this, but technically it is not broken, just old. That is why it was closed.

imho - It would be better, faster and safer to just set it to blink red on the plaza and straight across and yellow on the Schwenk Dr.

Unacceptable! This light is so rediculously long that for all intensive purposes it is broken. This is what we are telling you; the light is broken and needs to be fixed! Use some of that meter money or moneycollected from tickets. HOw much could it possiblycost to change the timing on a light?

If it costs $50-70k to fix the light, hire a part-time traffic enforcer for $25k/yr to move cars through. I avoid driving in and patronizing the uptown area because of the stupid light. Use some of the Pike Plan removal funds immediately to repair the faulty light. I strongly doubt it would cost $50-70k to repair. Can't we buy some used control devices? This should have been fixed a long time ago without a public outcry. STEP UP, MAYOR!

Thank you for the effort and information. Most of us really do appreciate the steps you are taking to monitor this site and the attepts you make to "fix" the issues brought up here.

I can tell you first hand that I have seen MANY things that are posted on here delt with in regaurds to DPW.

If i am understanding it correctly, it is an electrician hired by the city, who is responsible for coming up with a solution? And the Dpw's responsibility as to whether it fits within the budget?
By any chance, is the electrician open for contact? (to troubleshoot and come up with a more cost effective solution)?

I have this stubborn feeling that there is a FIX somewhere, and we just havent found the best one yet.
