This issue will never be closed - it is an ongoing thing - until they decide to pave the road!

The Town of Islip will continue to monitor the area and make the necessary pavement repairs. An area crew made pavement repairs on 4/7/10 and a litter task force cleaned the area on the same date.

We do appreciate the ongoing repair efforts. And they will be ongoing until this road gets paved/drains installed. Concerning the cleanup task group - they were actually here yesterday, the 8th and 2 issues with that. 1) they did not clean the entire road/only about 1/2 of it, if that and 2) where they did clean was not a complete job. There was alot of small litter/debris left. I did see this work crew myself and I am sorry to say, not a very ambitious group......

I am glad to see that the cleanup team is here again today - and doing a better job. I also wanted to make a comment that if this street, especially North of Church Street (business district which is a dead end) had more police patrols at night, some of the people that hang out here/major garbage dumping offenders might get caught. Basic litter is one thing but when they are dumping 1/2 of their houshold junk, that is really bad.

This is for Karri Mollet - thanks again for the street cleanup but jest wanted to fill you in. It only took 1 day after it was cleaned to have large filled trash bags dumped. 2 in front of an empty building and 1 plus other loose garbage thrown into the wood directly across from our building. It's mt new view from my office........ It's like I was telling you - if we don't have patrols down here at night, this will never end.

The Town of Islip fixed all the potholes and had workers cleaning up the mess that the people made over there. I saw a homeowner dumping his yard waste a day after the town cleaned the area. It is the neighbors that are dumping their crap on the roadside. Why dosen't the person complaining turn in her neighbors? People love to complain about the problem but chose to blame the town, but it's easier than doing something productive to correct the problem.

Our company invested alot of money in our building as did Blackman who also moved in last year. All the business owners had been cleaning up the area on a daily basis and felt it was time to get the Town involved. Especially when we watched the pothole repair truck come down on a weekly basis-fill 1 pot hole and 2 people sit in the truck for the rest of the aftenoon......... We are all trying to keep our business area nice. If you actually saw neighbors/people that live on South Sylvan dumping trash, why didn't you do something about it/contact the Town? If it's a joint effort, perhaps the problem can be corrected.

This is to reply to Pothole Pete - yes, you are correct the potholes have been fixed. But this will be an ongoing problem until North Sylvan is paved. And yes, the area was cleaned and there has since been trash dumped. I have been in contact with the Town and they are going to continue to monitor the area/problem. Thanks for your input.

Because until this road is paved, the potholes will continue to surface on a daily basis. So much heavy truck activity creates this.

This is for Karri Mollet - remember I told you that there was a garbage bag dumped right after the cleanup? Well, it seems that someone is targeting our business. We now have 3 bags directly in front (across the street) of our building and someone has now left tires behind our building. This is disgusting!!! Someone had posted a response stating that they know it is the "neighbors" from (I'm assuming) South Sylvan that is dumping all the trash. I know you said you forwarded the concerns to Public Safety - have they implemented anything yet?

The Potholes are fixed. JoAnn justs wants the entire area repaved. It seems that she is the only one that has a problem.

To Pothole Pete- I am speaking for alot of the business owners on this street. Yes, we are grateful that the potholes have been fixed but they wouldn't have been fixed if people didn't get involved. And it would be nice if the street could be paved. Do you drive on this street on a regular basis? The garbage problem still remains an issue - 3 bags were just picked up from infront of our business last Friday and this morning (Monday) there is 1 of those street type basketball hoop with base dumped across from our driveway...........

I have forwarded your concerns to your Highway Area Coordinator, he will continue to monitor the area for both potholes and litter. In addition, I personally spoke with the Commissioner of Public Safety regarding the dumping issue and requested increased patrol in the area.

Thank you Karen. I don't know if you saw my last post about the basketball hoop w/base. And now this morning another bag in front of our place. As mentioned, it's almost as if someone is doing it on purpose now in front of our business.

Hello Karri,

Just an FYI - the garbage bags are multiplying in front of our building. One is the original one that has been sitting there for over 2 weeks now. And another one this morning. My boss is contemplating putting on rubber gloves/going through the bag to see if there is anything possibly to identify someone/an adress and those bags may end up back where they came from. We are also going to install multiple cameras outside the building which will be on at night to catch all the activity. With any luck, we will have something to submit.

The Town is doing a good job of keep up with the pothole situation.
