RGT - Just FYI. I have been calling Public Works every year for 6 years in a row because of the holes in the sidewalks in front of my and my neighbor's houses. I mean you can look down in the holes and not see the bottom. It has been this way for years. I have been told "you're on the list". Last year, they came and spray painted orange spray paint around the cracks. Twice. That was it. What now? Call them again? Yeah, OK.
No, I have no relatives in WH government. In the original post it simply states "city hall told me to deal with it..." I was merely thinking that perhaps the original poster did not connect to the appropriate department. I am pretty sure 129 Brown St. is in the 3rd District. If so, your rep on city council is John W. Lewis, Jr. You can email him at jlewis@westhaven-ct.gov If the city is not being responsive to your requests, our elected officials are there to advocate on our behalf. Press them for an answer as to why public sidewalks are not being maintained. And if you don't like the response, vote them out. I'd even go one further - run for office and get things done for WH. Our city needs all the help it can get.
Sidewalks all over that are dangerous, especially those that are so badly grown over and not maintained that people would rather walk in the street, where they encounter drivers who speed and drive rudely with impunity, thanks to the near absence of an effective deterrant like a police presence. Look at the east side of First Avenue where it crosses over the RR tracks. It's been that way for years. Meanwhile, PW continues to fiddle (groom the beach!) while Rome (West Haven) burns (falls apart).
