As of Saturday evening Aug 22nd the trash is still there. Some of the original trash was picked up but there is still a lot left.

Since the City acknowledged this complaint, it looks like they're going to count it in their statistics as a success. You may need to call them directly or even visit City Hall. There are several "contractors" who routinely dump construction trash in City parks, with East Rock a favorite target. If the property owner has been identified, s/he could identify the person who did the dumping. (Or else accept personal responsibility!)

Ravenclaw points out an interesting point that I've often wondered about. Does SCF consider successful closure of an incident when it's simply "acknowledged" by a particular city department, or is the metric of success an actual resolution of the issue? Big difference.

Trash still there--Nothing picked up at this location as of Saturday, Sept 19th.

Wouldn't it be a lot better if the city would collect the garbage before it got illegally dumped?

The skeptic in me says that's because once the city "ackowledges" the issue the metric is counted as a success. (Who cares if the original poster is satisfied about a successful resolution.) I wish there was more transparency about this.

I'm with sumo71. I've got contractor bags, a pair of gloves and a rake. Let's go clean it up ourselves (and anybody else on this thread who wants to join in). Sometime this weekend? Shouldn't take more than an hour. Then we can dump the bags in front of the Public Works depot on Middletown Ave.

Finally cleaned up on Friday, Oct 9th. Public Works also opened up the space by cutting down a tree and some of the larger brush--including a nice elderberry bush planted when this was a green space.

Good morning, to answer the following question, no SCF does not add an acknowledge as a closure. An acknowledge means we are aware of the situation and a closure means the issue was resolved.

There are measures and procedures that the public does not see and though this issue may have taken a month+ to complete it is not as simple as just going to pick it up. As a community or resident it may have been indeed easier to "go out there with gloves and trash bag and get this done myself" but this was a joint effort by the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks & Recreation and it was done in a timely manner. If everything was that simple there would be no need for SCF, property lines, ownership or departments. SCF is a great forum to keep us all up-to-date on the happenings of the city and I know my department does appreciate the community for their input but the truth of the matter is things take time and unfortunately the time frame may not be agreeable to all.
