DANGER!! Potholes, broken curbing, sinkholes, trash and overgrowth line the narrow winding stretch of Mowere Road near the access point of the new Schuylkill River Trail entrance and one block uphill at Needle Street. Pedestrians are using the road to access the trail with baby carriages, bicycles, dogs and each other, trying to hug the side to make room where there is none. Single lanes in each direction without a shoulder offers NO space for foot traffic along the curve. I was in contact with Rep. Corbin's office who abdicated to the Borough since repair is scheduled for 2016. This cannot wait, and repair needs to include a sidewalk. I have witnessed several near misses there already. The road itself is not repaired, and has still no viable shoulder. The neighborhood has gotten exponentially busier as has the Schuylkill River Trail. The only remaining bit of unfinished business is Mowere.
The issue has, on the other hand, gotten some attention including cutting back (or mowing) foliage that was overhanging the roadway and obscuring full view of the S curve AND a new sign in both directions saying no pedestrians or bikes allowed due to lack of shoulder.
Is that even legal? Somehow the danger and the condition of the road is being ameliorated by actually denying people easy access to the trailhead instead of fixing the problem itself.
