I can"t believe somebody didn't post this 2 days ago! That one and only bridge is a lifeline for alot of people. Not only the truckers going north but also for people that work in the North Industrial area. There have been posts about the taxpayers crying about the so called "rich lakers" and Northern "rich" companys using the bridge. I am not one of them, I live in the city but my job is in the North Industrial area, that bridge is my lifeline to and from work. If taxes have to go up yet again for another bridge I will accept it. Not only because of my daily drive but it also it affects my job.
So this is "see click fix"? Please fix the bridge NOW!!! Too many livelihoods are on the line.
Fix it??? They should have at least been inspecting it! Wanna try and get across there with an ambulance during rush hour . This is a gonna end up costing lives because they will have such slow response to any accidents north of town.
we need a new bridge. they are constantly fixing the bridge but its crumbling faster than they can keep up . this has been an ongoing issue for years . will it take someone actually falling through before they build us a new one?
didnt the city inspect it last year or 2 years ago and found a crack in the cement? but they said it would be ok for a few years. shouldnt they of started on a new bridge at that time? And now were going to have to deal with 2 lane bridge that has over 20 000 cars traveloverit a day.( think thats the number) Hopefully they can fix this bridge by the end of october. And over the winter work on plans for a new one just east of town and start construction on it in the spring
Just wondering Doug, when they said 20,000 cars per day crossing the bridge, were they counting all the semi's (hauling chemicals, RTM houses, & heavy machinery) too? What about the combines, motorhomes, campers and other very large trucks and machines that drive across? Or were they just counting the light cars? Just wondering....
The slow flow of traffic is a pain but when they go to fix the bridge will all lanes be shut down and if so where do medical emergencies go as shellbrook does not have emergency services at the moment. I would guess that 75% of emergencies come from north of the bridge.
think if bridge closes for repair we could use the railway bridge. Just use one of cn/cp machines and a flat deck to haul ambulence over the other bridge or....rent a ferry from downstream....or reroute all ambulences to nipawin lol.
