I agree - not only is this an endless yard sale but the increase in trash, parked unlicensed vehicles and discharge from those same unmaintained vehicles on the adjacent Serpentine Drive is unacceptable. While we were in lockdown and there were no "flea markets" I was assuming this was a way of feeding their children, but it continues,,,I have photos of the trash and the unlicensed vehicles, and the oil/whatever spills but this site will not allow me to upload them. If City of Vallejo wants to contact me directly, I can supply them.
I agree. Every time I drive by here to go to my parents there’s always a big truck that’s used to haul things parked on serpentine and other cars at that. It’s such a sore to look at their house with all these things they are “selling”
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that noticed this problem. The people that live at 490 Whitney Avenue are basically running a business out of their house. They are running a junk hauling business, auto repair shop, and thrift store. They do sale stuff almost everyday. I’m pretty sure this is illegal.
They make the neighborhood look terrible by parking cars, trucks, and trailers full of junk on the streets. They also create a traffic hazard with their big trailers they park everywhere. It’s hard for two cars to pass at the same time when the trailers are there.
The city needs to continue working to solve this problem because it remains a problem.
If the owners own a hauling service then parking a trailer for a day or so seems reasonable. I live nearby and I know for a fact the dumpster isn't there all the time.
The cars are not always there all the time. Unless you can run plates, how do you know they are unlicensed.
Cars and a business owner (if that's what he is) having to bring the dumpster home because the dump is closed doesn't make the neighborhood look bad. It's called making a living. Neighbors who can't sympathize with a working individual and family is what makes a neighborhood bad.
I'm sure if there was a civil conversation, a better solution could come from it, rather than just posting comments over and over and "window lurking".
Just an observation. A conversation can go much , much further, and can be more constructive.

You’re wrong again, they have cars parked all around the area near their house. I didn’t say they were unlicensed either.
Business owners rent properties to run their businesses the correct way. If you want to work on cars, you rent an auto shop and do it there. If you want to run a junk hauling business, you rent a building or at least a parking lot. If you want to sell things, you rent a store to sell them at. Bringing your junk/business to a neighborhood is what makes a neighborhood bad. People that care about their neighborhood and comment about it here is what makes a nice neighborhood.
You say posting comments over and over, but this is the first comment I’ve posted about this. Other people have noticed this issue and posted comments about it too.
I’m not “window lurking”, Whitney Avenue is a busy street. Many people drive by there and can easily see what’s going on.
I noticed that you always try to say that things aren’t that bad when people comment about this. It makes me wonder if you are friends with them, because you sure are trying your best to defend them.
Nope I have no idea who they are. But I can relate to struggling to get a business off the ground.
Every business started somewhere. I wasn't replying to just you, I'm replying to everyone and one of them said unlicensed. It's not ALL about you, maybe that just your single minded ideas thinking everything revolves around you. Sad to see you feel that way and like your the can control what you consider "your" neighborhood. If your so concerned then why not be a good neighbor and talk to them first.
And I hope you have NOTHING wrong at your location, before trying to M-ake A G-reat A-rea ideology is inflicted on the neighborhood.
@AskToFixFirst - no need to run plates. Just look at a vehicle such as the one there about ten minutes ago with AUG 2021 tabs. It’s really easy for any civilian to tell when registration is expired.
This week 4 of their 5 unlicensed/expired license vehicles were moved. The trailer and box truck have been gone all week although visit for short periods of time. I spoke with the residents earlier this week to ask if they had a business license, they became very angry with me and ended up following me down the street. I video'd them driving the dark pick up with no plates and they turned around and went home and parked it. They would not say whether they had a business license or not, they would not say if they owned the home or not. When I asked what it would take to keep the street clean and nice like the rest of the neighborhood they told me "I was the only trash on their street". And a few other silly comments.
Just want to say a big THANK YOU to the City for ticketing/addressing the abandoned vehicles and for Carlos and his team for removing most of the accumulated trash. There is still an accumulation of trash in the vegetation above and below this area and across the street. Hopefully, the street sweeper on Monday will get the rest out of the gutter, but is there another crew who will handle the trash in the ivy and across the street in the gully between the street and the neighbor's home? In my experience (former property manager), a little trash attracts a little more, a lot of trash attracts a lot more and no trash....attracts no more. GREAT improvement!!!! So grateful to see the efforts of neighbors triggering a response from the City. Working together..we have a solution!
While I don't know HOW you approached the individuals. I will say I'm glad you at least tried to talk to them. That's all I ask step 1 shouldn't be call the cops or code enforcement.
Their response shouldn't be aggressive when asking about trying to keep the area cleaner. As far as the owning or renting....idc what that has to do with anything.
Thank you. As a former property manager, (25 years in multiple communities - 8 or more at a time and up to 500 units each) I always ask "did you talk to them before filing a complaint?" Often homeowners and renters do not know that being an "owner" has community obligations. There is a perception that "if I own this place I can do what I want! My request to learn if they owned or rented is based on the law that if a property owner knows that their renters are breaking a law, then the property owner has legal liability. So if there were no response, from the residents or the city, my next step would have been to ask the property owner if they knew what they were liable for. Not my first step, my last. So happy to see this resolved at this stage.
