Can we assume you meant to say "...very used to NOT slowing down..."?

No WillP. I meant to say 'very used to slowing down at this red light'. At a red light you are supposed to stop. My point is the light is a joke as people hardly even slow down if they see an opportunity to go. With the area becoming more "walker friendly" I would hope to see a crosswalk lane at the minimum.

Installation of a pedestrian crosswalk is not a "Quick Fix" and as indicated in the post from May 18, this request has been referred to the Six Forks Road Corridor Study, where the request will be noted and addressed as appropriate given the parameters of the overall study.

The city council has not yet approved the corridor study. Leaving issue Acknowledged.

Pedestrian crosswalk improvements are indeed "quick fixes" and are referred to as such in the Six Fork Draft Plan (which has been delayed at least twice). From the draft plan:

"Move forward with the “Quick Fixes” associated with creating a safer
and clearer pedestrian environment by providing crosswalks where
they are needed, fixing sidewalks, completing sidewalks, providing
landscape, lighting and furniture"

Protected walk phases for existing signals, more paint and signs are all quick and cheap and would help. Pushing this off on the Six Forks Corridor Study is a sure way to make sure nothing happens for years. Evaluate this request on its own merits, don't tie it to a $30 million project!

My employer recently moved into a building at North Hills. Would it be possible to move up the changes that are planned for a pedestrian / bike crossing over 440 from Six Forks?

I like to bike or walk at lunch time for exercise and we have the beautiful Neuse River greenway just a mile or so south of Six Forks and 440, but it is very difficult to cross over 440 from the North Hills area.

Adding that change sooner would really help.

fredscuba I opened this issue over a year ago. We have seen no change to sidewalk safety, crosswalks, or any attempts by the city of Raleigh to improve the conditions here. The only improvements have been ON North Hills property managed by Kane realty. They have updated crosswalks, lane markings, signs, etc. City of Raleigh has done nothing. Spread the word and hopefully they will take notice.

It appears that the city does not intend to do anything about the situation at this interchange. I have been told that NCDOT would not approve any changes that could potentially slow down automobile traffic.

Dwight- Even for the sake of human life and safety?

I brought that up with the city rep I talked to. He was sympathetic and informative, but would promise no help.
