218-322 Park Road Hamden, Connecticut - HamdenSomebody in broad daylight stopped their car or truck then unloaded and tossed about 7-10 pieces of large plastic "play kitchen" parts down the hill so somebody else would have to both look at the junk desecrating the natural beauty here or else hike down the hill, retrieve it, and dispose of it or recycle it appropriately. Unaccountable selfishness. All of this could've gone to Goodwill, which would have accepted it and made it available to the needy.

Policing Issue Archiviato15 Court St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Wooster SquareQuestion for police and city officials: Is drinking and obvious drunkenness in public, especially on the New Haven Green, legal? If it's not, please do the non-drunk and non-littering yet high tax-paying citizens of New Haven a favor by enforcing the law and getting a handle on the mess and filth that's taken over use of the Green from people who don't like to saunter by or while away a pleasant bit of time on a park bench that's surrounded by drunks and filth?

Illegal Dumping ArchiviatoEnglish Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East RockI think It's been two whole days since I picked up the litter from the parking lot at the entrance of East Rock Park to the parking lot beside the Solders and Sailors Monument atop East Rock Park and one LARGE BULGING BAG of garbage had been thrown, dropped, dumped along the road and in the vegetation beside the road in that short time. Of course it's a criminal act, given that littering is against the law. And so I ask the City of New Haven, how many tickets/citations/written warnings have you given out in the past year for littering and trash dumping?
I'd guess few to none. Please prove me wrong.
There seems to be no heart in New Haven to make the difficult choices required to keep the city clean and free of trash.
It's an embarrassment to have friends from out of town see the Green and East Rock, strewn with 16 oz. beer cans in paper bags, broken beer bottles, tiny liquor bottles, hundreds of insulated cigar foil packs, Dunkin' Donuts bags, boxes, cups, wrappers.
Furthermore, there is STILL NO GARBAGE BIN ATOP EAST ROCK AT THE PARKING LOT and it's been 3-5 days since there's been none.
I appear to be getting nowhere with the city and the nasty littering citizens, but I'm going to keep picking it up the trash and showing it off.
So disgraceful. So unnecessary. So discouraging to think that many of these trash-tossing pigs are raising children who see an example and are being conditioned to follow it. -
Illegal Dumping and Absence of Garbage bins ArchiviatoEnglish Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East RockThree pounds of trash since Saturday in this grocery bag.
Why aren't the cities of Hamden and New Haven dealing with this problem?
There were not even any garbage cans on the summit and only one at the English pavilion -- filled with one empty cardboard box, and another at a little parking spot, empty but surrounded by trash.
Let's do something about this.
Get angry about trash dumping trash. Take political action. Call somebody. Complain.
Make it clear that this is NOT acceptable. -
Illegal Dumping Archiviato1-19 Academy St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Wooster SquareA bathroom vanity sink made of composite material was smashed to pieces and left in this Wooster Square park bench. Many of the pieces have sharp edges and whoever removes them to an appropriate waste repository needs to take care to avoid injury.
Question: What kind of idiot would do this? -
Parks Issue ArchiviatoFarnam Drive Hamden, Connecticut - HamdenAs is clear from the photograph, the trash and litter stop at the closed gate. If East Rock became a hiking and biking only park (except for regular dates and times when cars are allowed and ample anti-littering police officers both from Hamden and from New Haven are present), we could keep it clean and trash free. And by trash free I'm not just talking about the littler, but the people who drive up and dump the trash making them post facto trashy. It is my believe, though probably not a proven fact, that the bottles, cans, fast food waste, cigarette packages and all the other unwanted mess usually accompanies the general public that arrives in automobiles.

Just don't leave your discarded cabinetry on the street. It's unsightly and shows poor manners. -
Farnam Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East RockFound in the weeds along the pretty winding road that leads to the Soldiers & Sailors Monument atop East Rock Park, a lot of trash, including fast food wrappers and two empty bottles of Corona Beer accompanied by a receipt for two bottles of Corona Beer purchased at the Bottle Depot on Frontage Road in East Haven and charged to Carlos A Bustos whose credit card's last four digits are 5132. Carlos, I have your bottles, each carrying a $.05 deposit, which you accidentally left with other trash by the road on East Rock. If you're interested in retrieving the two bottles so you can collect your total $.10 deposit, please get in touch with me through this post so we can arrange to meet in front of the New Haven Police Department headquarters at 90 Hallock St,, New Haven, CT 06519, Thanks.

Illegal Dumping Archiviato776 Grand Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Wooster SquareReported this illegal dumping of furniture on Grand near Jefferson beside the Catholic Charities Child Development Center about 45 days ago and there the pile sits still, untouched and yet another trashy eyesore on this stretch of Grand Avenue, which could be so much improved if people would clean it up.

Parks Request ArchiviatoWooster Square Park New Haven, Connecticut - Wooster SquareVandals or drunks last night busted off one of the park bench rails and threw it 10 feet. The bolts are still attached to the cast-iron frame so all that's needed is a new wood rail.
Bit by bit Wooster Square Park is losing its benches, beautiful iron fence, and losing its trees, but in the process gaining lots of trash, tiny liquor bottles, fast food wrappers, pizza boxes, foil cigar wrappers, empty cigarette boxes, beer cans, etc., even though every exit has a garbage container and a few more plastic ones have been set here and there inside the park.
Can we exercise some control over this lovely resource and protect it a bit better than we have been?
Everybody should be free to use the park; nobody should be free to abuse it.
Answers, anybody? -
Trash surrounding this business Archiviato708 Grand Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Mill RiverThe sidewalk on Co-Op Liquor's Grand Avenue side and on the side that faces Ferraro's is always a filthy trash-strewn mess, most of which appears to come from products sold in the store.
Could the owners of this store please spend 15-20 min. per day sweeping the sidewalk around the store? It would look so less trashy and so much better. -
Illegal Dumping ArchiviatoWhite Trail New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East RockTwo more pounds of litter since yesterday on East Rock.
City of New Haven, Mayor Harp, what are you doing about this? -
Parking Violation/Abandoned Auto Archiviato12 Court Street New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Wooster SquareBlack Audi station wagon again monopolizing no parking space at 8:46 am Wednesday, September 2, at 14 Court Street.

Illegal Dumping Archiviato883 Orange Street New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East RockWelcome to New Haven. Every day or two I ride to the top of East Rock Park and pick up trash the good citizens of New Haven and Hamden save up at home so they can use to despoil the beauty of this wonderful park.
Why do our citizens pick such a lovely place to litter and pollute its natural beauty? Bad upbringing? Poor role models? An inherited trashiness? Bad judgment? Ignorance?
Whatever the reason, every day these poor citizens drop fast food, tobacco, alcohol, candy wrappers and bags as well as used diapers and other everyday refuse you would hold onto until it could be properly disposed.
So what's to be done?
How can we educate and fix this?
I don't know but please weigh in with suggestions below.
By the way, after a 5 day absence from my litter runs up East Rock today I snagged three (3) bulging grocery bags full of trash -- and that's just from the parking lot to the hairpin curve. I ran out of bags and had to leave some behind for tomorrow.
Let's hear some constructive advice and practical solutions.
Thanks -
Parks Request Archiviato2-30 Wooster Place New Haven, Connecticut - Wooster SquareThis was just closed but a very recent examination of the situation shows that the situation in same as ever. Narrow-tube garbage bins set inside much larger rubbish fixtures at every entry to Wooster Square clog immediately when the smallest pizza box gets set on top the narrow inserts and soon all trash spill onto the ground. To better understand, I put on rubber gloves, moved away the trash and tied bags of dog waste and beneath the overflowing bulk of trash atop the garbage can found one pizza box, bent and stuffed partially into the top of the narrow inner lining container. Beneath that pizza box was 3 feet of empty, unused space. This insert system IS NOT WORKING so would all you very capable and creative folks in the parks department who do such an amazing job of keeping the city as beautiful as it can be, please figure out a fix to this? thank yo.
