people presumably taking the turn too fast on mechanic street have hit the utility pole a bunch of times leaving it less sturdy and worn down.

midway down mechanic street, regional water authority dug up some asphalt to do some work, and they replaced it with a terrible patch job.

if this is any indication of the quality of work they do around town, they need some supervision. thanks, guys. i ride my bike over that huge bump twice a day.

more needs to be done to prevent this coffeeshop from becoming a hangout for the homeless. (i don't deny that more needs to be done FOR the homeless, but this one business should not shoulder that burden/suffer because business is driven away.)

every time i visit here, i hear disrespectful language yelled across the store, conversations about drugs including potential drug deals right in the store, and generally offensive conversations. it is very frustrating that this happens often in front of children and first-time visitors to new haven.

i see the same several faces every time who commit these acts. after one guy yelled "f you" loudly across the entire store, i turned and made a motion to calm down with my hand, because there was a 3 or 4 year old in line behind me. he responded with " bl*w me".

bars can ban certain customers who do not behave themselves. can starbucks begin to do the same?

let me start off by saying i am in no way opening this issue to debate whether abortion should be legal or not, so please do not use this space to preach one way or the other.

although i personally find the protesters at planned parenthood (and now often by the peabody museum) very offensive, i am reporting this issue on the basis of what is legally their right and what is not.

when i protested the start of the iraq war, the group i was with was told by an officer that we are allowed to hold a sign. but that since we do not own the property we were standing on, we could not affix signs to posts, or lean them on trees, or lay them on the ground, etc.

this is what the protesters are doing on edwards street and sometimes whitney. they spread at least ten posters on property that they do not own.

i'd like some clarification on what their rights are, and if we can ask them to tone down their presence if they are not legally allowed to take over the block.

  • 746 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - Downtown
one of the red lights on state street at the intersection of chapel traveling towards union station is out. after the amber, in the left lane, it goes blank.
  • 341 381 State St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - Downtown

why do so many people push the walk signal and then walk through the intersection anyway? i find it happens especially at this intersection in the evening.

i understand that as a time-saving measure, people walking through an urban environment might just take the path of least resistance. but, in the long run, i think it only increases the number of agitated drivers grumbling at red lights, ready to "make up for lost time" by speeding and running lights down the road.

(in appleton, WI, i saw great walk signals that were more specific to where you were crossing, and didn't just stop the traffic on all sides every time...)

  • 74 Mechanic St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
i'm wondering why the landlord hasn't begun any cleanup of the property after the fire on april 16th?
  • 381 407 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Mill River
the lot on chapel and east street is in need of a clean-up.
  • 80 116 Church St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - Town_Green
even when pedestrians have the right of way at this intersection, when traffic is stopped on church, the hand signal tells pedestrians to stop, instead of counting down how long they have to cross.
  • 58 98 Edwards St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Bishop-Hine
edwards is so torn up between whitney and state street!
  • 202 286 Temple St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
with so many people crossing here, why is it just an ambiguous strip of bricks laid down in the center of asphalt for drivers to speed over while i am trying to cross the street?
  • Willow St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Cedar Hill
the fenced off properties on either side of virtually every highway overpass in new haven are full of junk from many, many months passed. (i notice willow/state, state/humphrey, state/bradley in particular having walked passed them so many times.)have cleanups been scheduled this spring?
  • 43 109 Mechanic St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock

I am wondering about a recent change to the property behind the abandoned factory between mechanic/lawrence/state st. there is a mysterious big blue tarp covering a lot of ground. what purpose does it serve?

and what hope is there of cleanup here? i know there had been an interested buyer that backed out some time ago...

  • English Dr New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
I am excited for New Haven to paint shared road markings this year, and I am hoping that some stretches of road by East Rock Park are included? Drivers behave extremely aggressively here despite the high volume of cyclists and pedestrians.
  • 74 Mechanic St New Haven, CT - East Rock

... and as the weather warms, so does this issue.

a white atv with red detailing on the front driven by a white male in his late 30's early 40's pulled out of the driveway beside 74 mechanic st and circled the block a few times around 2pm today.
as he sped on the streets, children were getting out of both east rock magnet school and cross annex.

i called it in to the non-emergency number but have no idea if they sent someone to check it out; (they probably would have nabbed him on his 4th time around: eagle/lawrence/mechanic...)

  • 66 Mechanic Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
it has been a couple of weeks since someone cleared out a lot of trash from 66 mechanic street. the bins are overflowing and surrounded, and the garbage crews haven't touched it, probably because it was improperly thrown out. it doesnt seem like anyone has made an appt for bulk trash pickup.
it's taking up most of the sidewalk.
  • 136 Crown St New Haven, CT - Town_Green

i've noticed on bike rides late at night that every light includes a walk sign on all sides no matter what time of night. i think it's needed during the day but i've noticed that it it rarely used by walkers. i think lights like these contribute to drivers trying to beat them....

can it be switched to a normal light cycle with pedestrians pushing a button when they need it after, say 10pm or so?

  • 195 Elm St New Haven, CT - Downtown

midway between high st. and college st., students are constantly streaming across the street. my belief is that students will always take the most direct path across regardless of the crosswalk at york. another crosswalk would be ignored here, as drivers already speed through the light at york.

any chance yale could build a simple pedestrian crossing above the street? i bet there are plenty of local architects who would jump at the chance.

light turned red (on all sides, for pedestrian crossing) at the intersection of church and grove. van sped up to make it through the intersection. (almost hit a woman & child about to cross church.)

called comcast to report it, but they had me on hold for 15 minutes.

  • 626 State St New Haven, CT 06511 - Downtown
this lane ends abruptly and is clearly for turning. could we add a painted arrow?
i've seen drivers and ct transit buses use this opportunity to aggressively pass traffic (even cyclists, like myself, this morning) on the right and force their way back into traffic going straight.
