I appreciate the direct response Mayor Stewart. This problem annoys me every winter because the city goes out of its way to post a message to property owners via The Herald about what their responsibilities are re: shoveling sidewalks prior to the start of winter. I cannot recall one instance of a property owner being ticketed at least on Black Rock Avenue. Thanks again. Mark

I agree.
Why some people can clean up their properties and some others don't give a sh**. Ticket them!
And how about the cars parked on the streets covered with 2ft of snow, making the roads extremely narrow? Don't we have a parking ban?
Teach them a lesson! (and make some extra money for the town at the same time.)

The ordinance is rather weak unfortunately. We are going to cite people under the Anti-Blight ordinance which is quicker and more effective. Changes will be made to the original ordinance to make compliance more immediate. It is the property owners responsibility to clear their walks and all it takes is one slip and fall and they will never do it again!

Update: The white 3-family house, 152-154 Black Rock, sits empty with snow still covering the walk from the last several storms. House appears abandoned. Likewise, 99 Black Rock has the same conditions, and the owner (Debra Green) hasn't cleared the sidewalk at all this winter not even once. I have pics of both properties that I'll post later.

Both properties remain uncleared. Re: 152-154 Black Rock. I think the company or bank that holds the mortgage should be held responsible. Re: 99 Black Rock. I believe the woman who owns this property has abandoned it, along with her van (which has not been moved in several months, and has left the city. I am going to take this property by adverse possession.

Mark, I have instructed Ken Malinowski to get the CW Resources group to clean the walks but they haven't gotten to it yet. I will follow up again with him> Sorry for the delay. We will lien the propoerty for all costs incurred.

Thank you Mayor Stewart for the update. Yeah, it's been a pretty tough winter all around.

Mother Nature took care of the problem. If I waited for the property owner or the bank to clear the sidewalk I'd be dead and buried in my grave.

Mark, we sent out the people from CW Resources to clear the walks there weeks ago after your first inquiry. They even came back a seconf time and did some more work. Thank god for mother nature she is helping!
