This is a year-round issue, but is particularly bad during the winter/snow months. All of these houses HAVE DRIVEWAYS to park in, and at least one has a parking lot behind it. Still, the cars are sitting on the street, some in the travel lane on the eastbound side. Why aren't they at least given parking tickets?

The DPW guys need to bring that big loud sidewalk snowblower from the 1970's over and REMOVE the snow.

I think I understand why Troy doesn't do more snow removal. The antiquated equipment they are forced to use is 4 decades old or older! It can't be very nice piloting that big loud hunk of junk around the city.

Didn't the city council recently try to spend $250k of tax payer money on a firetruck that the fire department said they didn't even need or ask for? The money was to come out of the rainy day fund.

The city council should allocate the funds for something that IS really needed... brand new snow removal equipment. Maybe then, the DPW wouldn't need to have their arm twisted before they removed some snow in the city?

We all have to shovel out the bottom of our driveway when they plow, that's to be expected. At least if the cars are moved off the street and INTO THE DRIVEWAY they CAN plow the street. Cars parked on the street should be ticketed and towed like they are in other municipalities. Trying to drive down Tibbits Avenue in the morning and dodging the parked cars on one side with the school buses trying to get through at the same time is horrendous.

Mary my van was hit and my other vhicles mirror was smashed right off. In both instances, I was park IN the snowbank. Both vehicles are 4 wheel drive so I can actually drive them in to the snowbank.

The streets were so narrow due to all the snow that the city didn't remove... cars all over troy got damaged.

I think Troy should man-up and pay for all these broken mirrors and crashed cars that were legally parked when hit.

If the cars are cleared off the street in order to give the plows a chance to come through, the streets get plowed. The cars that are left parked on the side of the street when it snows, and don't move for the plow, then later brush their car off and drive away leaving big mounds of snow to turn into icy piles on the sides of the street are what causes this problem. Cars should be moved OFF the street when it snows so the plow CAN come through to clear the street. This problem is only compounded when people then try to squeeze their cars onto the accumulated, uncleared snow left over from the cars which don't move for the plow. The parked cars are in the driving lane and force drivers to drive over the middle yellow line in the road.

Mary I agree. I moved my vehicles for the voluntary snow emergency but no one else seemed to. The city needs to enact a snow emergency and tow cars so they can remove snow.

I read in the times union a couple days ago that Troy was taking bids from contractors for snow removal on its streets. I'm kind of surprised they didn't take bids BEFORE all this snow came!

yes, it is up to the homeowners to clear in front of their homes, but what about all the city owned properties??? who is getting rid of that snow? no one!

When it's all said and done, the pedestrian does have the right of way, although it is dangerous to walk in the roadways in the wintertime, especially if the road is slippery. My point is, that if residents moved their vehicles off the streets after a snowstorm instead of just leaving them parked and then later driving away, leaving the big mound snow behind them after they leave, the plow would have the opportunity to clear the street more thoroughly, thus enabling on-street parking. Since Troy does not issue snow emergencies (like other municipalities) and residents do not move cars off the street, vehicles are left on the streets and the plow has no choice but to go around them, leaving the side of the street unplowed. The plow is not going to keep coming through to see who might have moved their car whenever they want to. The people who move their cars later on certainly do not clean the space they're vacating. They just leave a big pile of snow behind.

The other part of my comment on this issue was: Why is anyone parking on the street on this section of Tibbits Avenue? All of the homes here have driveways which can accommodate at least two cars, at least one residence has parking behind the building. The street is really not wide enough to allow for safe two lane driving along with on-street parking in the eastbound lane in any season, let alone winter/snow weather.

Almost six months later and this issue remains a problem. Cars traveling eastbound on Tibbits Avenue between Burdett and Orchard Avenues must drive over the center line of the road into the opposite traveling lane in order to avoid the cars parked on the right hand side. I don't know why on-street parking is even necessary or allowed on this road since all of the houses have off street parking. The problem, a nuisance in good weather, becomes a safety issue in the winter months when the cars are parked even further into the traveling lane.

Large pot hole at Burdett and Tibbits Aves. Also why all the dangerous dips on Tibbits between Burdett and Orchard Aves. Please fix immediately. There will be an accident soon tryin avoid all the dips in road

Yes, the road is in bad shape and the dips are scary. It almost feels like you might break something on your car driving over them. Add to that all the cars parked on the side of the street. Wait until there's snow on the road, then it gets much worse. Cars are parked out in the driving lane.

Really nice job repaving this area of Tibbits Avenue - it was much needed. That being said, I don't understand why they still allow on-street parking on this busy main street. All of the residences, on both sides of the street, appear to have ample off-street parking, yet many cars are parked on the side of the street. I've noticed many cars traveling east are driving over the double yellow center line in order to avoid the parked cars. This will be worse in winter.
