It should NEVER flash yellow. Another accident was just today at Monkey Junction with a car on its side. With a flashing yellow light you take the chance of making a left turn into traffic. Some of these turns have blind spots to oncoming traffic. If the lights were fixed it would tell everyone when to go safely. Now do you understand! No wonder New Hanover insurance rates are so high.

If it never flashes yellow, you'd have to wait for the green arrow...even when you are the only car on the road. Some drivers want to be able to go when they determine it is safe, others want to be told when to go...it's all about making smart driving decisions. It's unfortunate, but some drivers are way too distracted (cell, gps, food, etc...) or unfit (alcohol, drugs, etc...) to be driving.

Also, the flashing yellow arrow is the same concept as the left turns that go from the green arrow to the green ball, but the flashing yellow arrow is more intuitive as 'proceed with caution' rather than a 'green' ball. Green is typically associated with 'go'. The 'flashing' part of it makes it even more obvious to yield to oncoming traffic.

I still contend that if you feel unsafe making the turn you can keep waiting and the green arrow will eventually appear.

I have no problem waiting for a safe window to go. It is not about me. It is about the other people that don't wait. Then it causes an accident which in turn gets people hurt or killed, ties up more traffic, and makes the insurance rates go up. What seems to be the big deal on getting some order here? It is a simple fix all over town. I want to be protected from these impatient drivers if I am going straight on the roads. I don't want someone turning in front of me because they did not see me or because they thought they could make it.

Here is an idea.... don't turn if it isn't safe to do so. If you need a light to let you know if it is safe, please turn in your license.

You people just don't understand. It is the people that think they can make the turn that misjudge that is the problem. Or because of the blind spot because people across the intersection block the sight of oncoming traffic. So you think it is safe to turn because you don't see the oncoming traffic. I tell you what just get rid of all traffic lights. Since we don't need them to let us know when to go safely.

This light need to be adjusted during prime times with a green turn signal light rather than just a flashing yellow light as you can sit at the light for a long time waiting for traffic to ease up enough to make the turn. This happens early morning when people are going to work and any time after 4:30 PM when they are returning home. Thank you for taking care of this.

NEEDS to be changed to leading green arrow!! VERY unsafe intersection, especially during high traffic areas.

Flashing yellow means "proceed with caution" to me. If other drivers perceive it differently, then driver education is needed. I assume that the flashing yellow arrows at intersections for left turns is something that the NCDOT implemented to give drivers turning left another option than simply red arrow/green arrow.
Possibly a small "PROCEED WITH CAUTION" sign could be suspended directly below flashing yellow left turn signals.
