Prox 12 months ago I contacted DOT and they promised to get a traffic light installed at this dangerous intersection.
I hope city/state wil take immediate action. Seen several close call of accidents and kids getting hit. Thanks 02/22/2019

I've heard the above, and I've heard that all they're waiting for is funding. I think wet can get it funded just by passing a plate around to the neighborhood parents.

I have spoken with Shari Davis and John Grant from DOT. I was told they are waiting for funding as well to install the traffic signal at this intersection. I also complained that this dangerous intersection puts many lives at risk. School buses cross multiple times daily. I cross this intersection with my Leesville Middle school student and quite literally hold my breath until we get across.

Something needs to be done quickly. Many people are dragging their feet.

I think they’ve been “waiting for funding” for years. Maybe some middle schooler's life insurance money will cover it.

An update from the Raleigh Transportaion office:

I was able to find out that this signal was indeed submitted by NCDOT to compete for statewide safety money back in early 2018. It was not selected but was put on the hold list. NCDOT had some additional funding made available to them to finance projects they deemed as “High Impact – Low Cost”. This intersection was placed on this list for the funding of construction of a signal with pedestrian accommodations. Estimated for 2021.
I do not have a name yet for the new Division 5 Traffic Engineer – that is who you could contact to potentially discuss further. I understand he starts on 10/21/19.

I was advised all interested in seeing a traffic signal at this intersection should contact the State Representative.which may help move things along as well.

STILLLLL waiting. I've seen more than a few close calls with the high schoolers both driving and crossing on foot. It's only a matter of time before a kid is killed. On a long enough time line, everything is a certainty.

My 11 yo son and a group of about 20 middle school students were allowed to cross this intersection yesterday after their bus broke down. The driver gave them the option of walking home, no one from the school came out (the bus broke down at the school) to administer, and my son couldn't get a hold of me or his mother. So, they walked up the narrow lane of Country Trail on the street because there is no sidewalk, and crossed the Pinecrest intersection independently. I found out about it when he walked in the door. Luckily, he walked in the door.

So, we're now into the 2021-2022 school year. Last week I passed through this intersection and saw FOUR kids attempting to cross it. As I drove down Country Trail towards the schools I saw another FIVE kids heading towards the intersection traversing a very narrow, heavily trafficked portion of Country Trail. So glad they put those bike lane markers down away from this portion.
