Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

  This street should be moved up into a priority position. The potholes are ridiculous! It's like driving through a maze. People often have to go into the on-coming traffic lanes in order to avoid the axle busting deep potholes.

  This request should be a high priority because it is heavily used daily by buses and people delivering children to/from Joaquin Miller Elementary School and Montera Middle School. I have lived off Joaquin Miller Road for 31 years and have never seen this stretch of road from JM Road to Ascot in worse condition. It is almost impossible to drive on it, plus it presents a hazard to those on bicycles. This is a major public safety issue that is getting worse every day! If Sheng Thao and Libby Schaff took a drive on this stretch of road, I believe they would find it unaaceptable too. Please fix asap.

  Mountain between Joaquin Miller and Ascot = This street needs to move to a priority position. it is close to 2 schools and the damaged street is dangerous for everyone. Drivers often have to drive in the middle of the road to avoid the holes and uneven pavement. A few months back a City of Oakland truck was parked on the side of the road next to enormous pot holes. To avoid going into on coming traffic we had to drive over it. Our tire popped and it was a dangerous situation as 2 children were in the vehicle. This is our family’s 2 flat tire in 2 years due to potholes near our home. This location was the most dangerous

  I bike on this road as part of my regular commute. The potholes make it very dangerous for bikes - not only because it’s easy to lose control and get flat tires on the deep holes and bumps but because cars get dangerously close to bikers when they try to bob and weave between bumps and divets.

  I live on Mountain Blvd. between Ascot and Joaquin Miller and counted the potholes. There are 110 potholes. Yes, I said 110. Only some of them have painted circles around them. I was shocked when I saw that my street is not on the three year repaving schedule. What’s worse is that I was told once we finished the undergrounding project our street would be repaved. Well, that was a few years ago and the potholes have gotten worse. It’s just so frustrating sometimes living in Oakland. The road is so bad and not to be on the three year schedule is unacceptable. Thank you.

  This stretch of road has had multiple deep potholes for many years. It poses a significant danger for bicycles and automobiles, and frequently causes vehicles to swerve into oncoming traffic while trying to avoid the holes. Please put this stretch onto the priority list.

  The potholes are very deep and very dangerous for all drivers, bicycle riders and even walkers crossing the street. People are swerving to miss them into oncoming traffic. This is an accident waiting to happen. Besides this is the shortcut off the freeway to get to the elementary and middle schools. This should be on a priority list for sure. Thank you.

  According to the OakDOT Pavement Condition Index (PCI) study of all roadways in Oakland, this segment of Mountain Blvd received a PCI score of 18 (100 is perfect), however, it is not on the OakDOT three-year (2019-2022) repave lost. What will this segment of Mountain look like in four years? This segment of Mountain is also a feeder street for Joaquin Miller and Montera schools on Ascot. During disasters such as fires and earthquakes, it will help evacuees and first responders get around a bottle neck choke point on SR 13. This street also needs intersection grade asphalt so it will last longer after it's repaved. The utilities who have dug up this street over the years for utility repairs and they should pony up some money to have this street repaved as soon as possible.

  I heard back from Louansee Moua, Chief of Staff for District 4 via email. I briefed her and sent her a link to this thread. Summary of her comments:

  - Doesn't sound like she has access to the pothole blitz list of streets, only the district dates: "we hope that this area on Mountain is on that list" and "I have been collecting streets from emails and have added yours as well."
  - The pothole team will be in our 'district' from June 4 - 6 and she said they refer to info from this app when deciding where to go

  Re Paving:

  - The map I posted here and sent her isn't correct. She sent me a different link and Mountain is described in "poor" health so not sure we will be paved but at least we are on the radar.
