Four 16 Wheeler Tractor-Trailers sped down Youngs Road (between Quakerbridge Rd and Hughes Drive) between 7:30 to 8 a.m. this morning. The number of dump trucks decreased in numbers since the cold weather hit but they will resume in the spring. The majority of dump trucks are uncovered leaving walkers and bicyclists at risk of serious injury.

This is a RESIDENTIAL neighborhood not an Industrial road. There are plenty of nearby roads with the road capacity to safely handle these very heavy trucks. It is ironic that one of my neighbors was denied permission to build a reasonably large storage shed in his backyard, yet, we're subjected to over 10 ton trucks 24/7. This is an unjust situation. Do we have to wait for a death or critical injury of a resident or walker before the township puts a weight restriction on our street?

Heavy tractor trailer trucks continue to use our street as a short cut instead of using roads closer to the National Highway System. According to the commerce act, trucks are supposed to stay on the National Highway Network and use roads closest to the network. What these truckers could do is take Rt. 130 to I-295 to Quakerbridge Rd to their terminals but instead are taking Edinburg Rd to Hughes Drive to Youngs Rd. This results in increased costs to Hamilton Township taxpayers as our township roads are being damaged requiring repaving every few years and our PRIVATE homes are being damaged by the heavy trucks loads close to our houses. It appears the the Hamilton Town Council cares more for the truck companies then residents. Are they going to compensate us for home damage?

Youngs Road, between Quakerbridge Road and Hughes Drives, continues to be a cut-through for heavy trucks. My house shakes when some of the trucks pass my home and it's going to get worst come spring when landscaping trucks and dump trucks use our road. The township occasionally sends traffic police which temporarily slows down the speeding cars and trucks but within a few days cars & trucks are racing down our road. I don't understand why the township refuses to place a traffic warning cone informing drivers that pedestrians in the crosswalk have the right of way or refuse to place a weight limit on this clearly residential section of Youngs Road. Our homes are close to the road and sustaining physical damage from the impact of the heavy trucks. The heavy trucks can travel down roads designed to handle heavy truck loads, Quakerbridge Road to Flock Road to Edinburg Road, yet, they continue to drive down our road anywhere from 15 to 30 mph above the speed limit.

Heavy truck traffic, often exceeding the posted speed limit of 25 m.p.h., continues on this small stretch of Youngs Road. Now, that spring arrived, filled dump trucks are careening down the street along with the usual tractor-trailers from the New Penn, Conway, and two other trucking companies. Since this is a township road and NOT part of the National Highway Network, I do not understand why the Hamilton Township Government does not do what's best for the residents and the taxpayers by banning heavy trucks from this street. These trucks are costing Hamilton Township taxpayers money as this road needs frequent repaving. Why is the township not asking these truck companies to abide by the National Highway Network which does not include this section of Youngs Road? It seems as if the truck companies have more rights then the homeowners. Our homes were build in the early 1950's and a second group in the 1980's, and, the truck companies arrived years later. There is a simple solution to the problem; the truck companies should use Quakerbridge Road not this short section of Youngs Road.

This section of Youngs Road is not a part of the National Highway Network, NJ Highway Access Network, or a county road. According to NJ Rules regarding HEAVY TRUCK traffic, heavy trucks should stay on Federal, State, and County Roads not local streets unless it's a direct route to the terminal/destination and this section of Youngs Road is neither. The Law reads that HEAVY TRUCKS are to avoid residential neighborhoods and this is clearly a small street with only homes on it. The law, also, says that if heavy trucks can be routed off of roads if there are concerns from the public and public safety issues. These HEAVY TRUCKS are a danger to the homes on this street, the children on this street, walkers, bicyclists, etc. HAMILTON TOWNSHIP OFFICIALS are within their right to ban trucks, except emergency vehicles and FED/EX delivery (UPS, USPS, etc) light trucks from this street. For some reason Hamilton Township Officials are more concerned with the truck companies then the residents of this street. The majority of homes on this street were built in the early 1950's and the homes are near the road. We are regularly hammering back nails which pop out due to the force of the HEAVY TRUCKS. Who should I charge for home damage, the truck companies or the township?

During Hurricane Sandy there were no trucks barreling down our short residential road and, even with the high winds, our house did not shake as it does when the heavy tractor-trailers pass by. These trucks are not complying with the National Highway Network and the township is not protecting the residents of this street. Our property is being damaged by these trucks. Please ask the truck and landscaping companies to comply with the National Highway Network and route their drivers down Quakerbridge Road to Rt. 1, 295, 195, and 130 instead of using our street and Hughes Drive as short cuts.

Trucks barrel down our street 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Once again, we have to repair our walls damaged by the vibrations from these trucks. I do not understand why the Hamilton Township government officials allow a residential neighborhood to be subjected to these heavy trucks. These trucks should not be allowed to damage homes on a clearly residential street not designed to be a truck route. My question is 'why are Industrial Trucks allowed to use a short and narrow residential street as a truck route 24 hours a day/7 days a week'. I guarantee that if any town council member, the mayor, or any of there family members lived on our street that the trucks would stop coming down this street.

No, the issue has gotten worse. We have extremely heavy trucks going down our short street rather than using the roads on the National Highway Network system. This is a township road and our town council has the right to ban trucks, except for delivery and emergency vehicles according to a state official in the NJ Transportation Department. I don't know why our mayor and council allows these trucks to damage our homes and road. These truckers can use Quakerbridge Road to Sloan Drive to 295 instead of driving at high speeds down our short street to Hughes Drive to Edinburg Road. Yes, it saves them some time but it damages homes that were here 50 years before they moved into our nearby Industrial park down the road from our neighborhood.

There are times where within minutes of each other several of these tractor-trailers are passing by our house. On the other side of the street, there is an old farm house located within 8 feet from the road. On Saturday morning, there were four trucks that passed our home at 6 a.m.

102 foot fully loaded trucks continue to speed down our street with the full blessing of our township administration. The State of New Jersey reported to US Representative Russ Holt that these trucks should not be going down Hughes Drive or Youngs Road but the township allows them to do so. According to the National Highway Network rules and regulations, these heavy trucks are supposed to AVOID residential neighborhoods yet our township administrators in charge of vehicle and roads allows them to freely use our short residential street. We have been told that we are a secondary corridor and a minor arterial road, therefore, truck traffic is allowed. However, the State of New Jersey banned heavy trucks from using major arterial roads and Hamilton Townships banned these same trucks to use other aeterial and secondary corridor roads Nottingham Way or any of the side streets between Edinburg Road to Rt. 130 in Yardville. How come Youngs Road and Hughes Drives are exceptions? Why are other residential neighborhoods located next to industrial zones protected from the damage and noise of these heavy trucks while Youngs Roads is subjected to them?

The Township police can not patrol this road 24/7. When the truckers know that the police are monitoring traffic on this section of Youngs Road, truck traffic goes down. While the bridge was out on Old Trenton Road and our road was repaved, the truckers used the New Jersey Truck Network roads without difficulties. The National Highway Network rules and regulations CLEARLY STATE THAT HEAVY TRUCKS SHOULD AVOID RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS. This section of Youngs Road is clearly a residential road. The trucking companies are choosing to go down our RESIDENTIAL road with OLD homes located close to the street rather then adhere to the NJ Truck Network and the Township of Hamilton is allowing these truck companies to use our road as if it was an industrial road. They don't allow the residential neighborhoods around other commercial and industrial distribution centers between 195 and 130 in Yardville or between 195 and 33 in Hamilton Square. Except for delivery trucks to businesses on Rt. 33, heavy trucks are BANNED. Isn't it interesting that the state of NJ has restricted truck traffic on Rt. 33, a clearly business/commercial zone but the township allows heavy trucks on a clearly residential road.

What has happened to our neighborhood since HEAVY 102 Foot trucks are allowed to go down our clearly RESIDENTIAL street.On Youngs Road, you can not safely park cars on both sides of our road and riding a bicycle on our street is foolhardy and dangerous. The Township took away the crosswalk at Youngs Road and Deacon Drive which means that children going to the bus stop at that intersection do not have a "legal" safe place to cross on Youngs Road. A runner was strike by flying debris from a heavy truck which resulted in an ER visit. A 102 ft. truck jackknifed at the Youngs Road and Hughes Drive several years ago and, luckily, no one was injured or killed.

What will it take to restrict 102 ft. trucks and trucks over 4 Tons from Youngs Road? Will it take a 102 ft. truck losing control and crashing into a home resulting in death or injury of a resident or the death of a child or pedestrian before the township administration petitions the state to ban heavy trucks from this section of Youngs Road?

Tractor trailer traffic on local roads and in residential neighborhoods is a very crazy and increasing problem I have been complaining about for years. The NJ truck map a few years ago clearly defined that all tractor trailers were limited to certain major roadways to bring them to distribution centers. Now it seems these are advisories and new police hires have no training nor a desire to enforce. The "new" policing methods do nothing to protect residents. Everyone here needs to contact their state senators, local municipal and county law enforcement to complain. There are increasing tractor trailer accidents and it's only a matter of time before your neighborhood has a fatality or significant property damage.

Tractor trailers are governed by the US DOT and NJ DOT standards. BUT, there is does not seem to be enforcement anywhere. Why do we pay taxes for improperly trained and deployed police?

I've contacted our mayor, police department, State Senator & Assembly member. The police department told me the engineering department doesn't want to ban trucks on our street because of push back from trucking companies. The Chief Engineer told me to get used to change and trucks have a right to go down our street. According to Federal Truck Routes Rules and Regulations, trucks should stick to certain routes, he refused to abide by the federal rules and regulations.

The police sergeant was right that trucks should not go down our streets but the township doesn't want to deal trucking companies legal departments.
