I am somewhat hopeful that when the massive new mall/ "lifestyle center" (The Haven) opens in this area (phase I is just north of the bridge, phase II just to the south) it will encourage the DOT to create a better bike and pedestrian environment. One of the things East Coast Greenway and West River Watershed Coalition have been advocating for with the City of West Haven and the developer is to create bike/ped access here along the lower West River and harbor waterfront... if you have to use eminent domain, might as well use it for something good...

Actually, the problem is that the path to the Kimberly Ave bridge is the East Coast Greenway which the city of West Haven hasn't extended eastward from the beach yet, and is putting the 'mall' right over it's path.

I support West Haven's desire to revitalize an under utilized business area, but In effect the public land was sold to private interest. The East Coast Greenway is by far beyond the scope of a local municipality to have the right to obstruct.

The mall plans need to be suspended until the lueprints includes public waterfront access and a safe pedestrian/cycling path per the obligation to the ECG. I've been waiting patiently for infrastructure funding to finish this project for a safe place to help our nations veterans recover through cycling. Now we're getting pushed out because capitalist can't take time to add a couple public access features we were already promised.

totally agree as a bicyclist going to work in New haven from West Haven it is a hazard. With all the money Gov Malloy charges me on taxes and Mayor O'Brien as mayor WH spend some of it and put it to use. Its peanuts a bike path compared to other construction projects, stop raising my taxes if your not going to spend it wisely.

I'm not sure how to best support your sentiments but I agree and will "put my money (and my votes) where my mouth is"

Bike here at least 3x a week in warm weather months, summer especially, often spending money in West Haven spots along my longer path - Chicks (so hoping something happens there), Stowes, West Haven Bistro, etc. Love living in New Haven and being close to West Haven beaches is a part of that. Worried about what happens to Hallocks and some other spots in the new development plan... Hope any development can be good for West Haven residents and for those who love to come to West Haven from over the bridge. Safety is a super big issue coming over that bridge and down along 1st, too...
