This is no exaggeration. Drivers treat the red light as optional at this intersection. In addition to this light the one at 15th and Potomac is also abused. Drivers aggressively pass cars attempting to turn, run the light, and generally act in an unsafe manor.

Exasperating the issue is that there is no delay between the light turning red in one direction and turning green in the other. The change is instant with no pause on red for all drivers. This is the case at 15th and Potomac and Kentucky and Potomac SE.

Yes! It is very confusing. The traffic going toward PA Ave gets the yellow/red a few seconds sooner than the traffic going toward 17th. I don't know why it is staggered but it makes no sense.

My neighbor just reported that when he crossed with the green pedestrian light, he was almost hit by a driver who crashed the red light on Potomac well after it turned red. What is the status on this issue? It is a daily, frequent occurrence - let's not wait until someone is struck by a car please. Many children cross at this light to and from school, and countless adults. PLEASE UPDATE STATUS or suggest a way to escalate this issue.

The staggered lights at this intersection can be confusing, particularly for pedestrians trying to cross Potomac, but that's not the issue here: Drivers on Potomac are simply ignoring the red lights. I see it regularly. Just this morning, as I took my kids to school, I saw a driver eastbound on Potomac blow right through a red light here WELL after it had changed, in front of a dad with a small child preparing to cross on the "walk" signal. It's dangerous, and we need help here before someone gets hit.

This is an impossibly dangerous intersection. Something needs to be done here.

Looks to me like DC is committed to something, but it's certainly not safety.

Any updates on this? I was in the area last week and I didn't see any obvious changes...
