I agree. That's a separate issue at this location. Most of the degradation is in the east bound lane (heading towards SandCreek), but the spot you are referring to is the Westbound lane. There has to be almost a 5 inch drop on the white line.

UPDATE!!! They have patched the recent utility work. Not permanently, but you won't loose an axle.

UPDATE #2: it looks like the pavement has been cut at either end of the bad section and across driveways, in preparation for paving. Let's cross our fingers! I'll close the issue, when the work is actually done.

This road will be paved Tuesday, 6/15/10. It won't be a permanent fix. It's just meant to hold it together until it can be reconstructed in 4 years or so

i hope they mill the road first before paving, just putting a layer of blacktop on top of uneven road is just window dressing because it will fall apart before it makes it to the reconstruction in 4 years. do it correctly the first time and you will not have to touch it until 4 years from now.

did they grind off the top layer first? before paving, if not it will be like it was before in a very short time.

yes it has been paved, but does not look like it was grind / milled any before the paving was done, I give it a year before it is back to the way it was before the paved over.

At least that will be a year without potholes. Better than them ignoring it the whole time.

taking an extra day to mill the road down first would have made it last until the planed major road widening 4 years from now. most paving jobs are done that way now.

I don't think it would make that much of a difference. The cracks were deeper than the milling would be, so they would still be there, and will still propagate up through the new top course.

Milling would have provided a level surface, so it would be easier to get uniform compaction, and perhaps a better bond between between the new surface and the old, but it wouldn't retard the cracking.

the deeper cracks could be filled in and the main point I am trying to get at is what "Zufechten" says in the 2nd paragraph is to have a level surface (non ridge and valley) before paving. not doing so over time - what is under a new pave will show it self in a short time (6 to 12 months).

taking a extra step up front would extend the investment of the paving in the long run. IMHO

Jeez, guys. This isn't a chat room. Why don't we all wait a year and Brian E can stick his tounge out at that point and say, "I told you so." Give it a rest.

1- this is not a chat room
2- I would not want to in a yr be noting that what I noted is coming true. poor use of funds (county or town)
3- One can only cross ones fingers that the widening of this section of road will occur in 4 yrs. (plans on paper sometimes get lost on ones desk)
4- noting the possible miss step in job planing process of this road repair may make other jobs done better because someone may have forgot it should be been done on this one.
5- each person has a different view or idea on something and would not this be the place to put those views out there on a subject that effects thousands of people a day and is your tax dollars at work.
