I've spoken with Sgt. Thomas Murray and they will be installing an electronic speed sign which will gather all kinds of useful data. Also, he is the traffic safety officer and he mentioned he would look into putting signs indicating there is a bus stop ahead. For many months various members of our neighborhood have tried to get help with the speeding issue on Olden. So far we've received no long term fix. Since speed bumps have been rejected by the township how about both a Bus Stop sign (corner of Battle and Olden) AND a cross walk?

Gosh - I just hope that no one gets hurt. Our neighborhood has a well documented paper trail and if someone get gets hurt well that would be tragic. People posting their concerns to this website and trying to low the traffic that comes of Mercer Rd. at 45 MPH needs to have something done about it. You are the experts but when a 3-year old get s nailed by a Institute for Advanced Study - Fedex delivery or a piece or of heavy duty construction equipment, an irate misdirected GPS driver or a Ferrari or F-150 pick up driven by someone who wants to drive expressively - well we are all going to lose. I cannot believe that despite over 3 years of pleas - our town chooses to believe we are making this up. Come and hang out for a day with us.

Andrew, I don't think those speed signs work cars slow down when they see them and I think the data is not what happens on a regular basis. Last week the middle school kids were walking down on Olden after getting off the bus, they have to walk on the street because there is no side walks, 2 cars were coming up the hill, going faster than 25 MPH and kept speeding even after seeing the kids walking. Both cars moved a little bit to the side but went pretty fast next to these kids. This corner is not only an issue during bus school hours; when driving it is a challenge to cross Olden Ln from any side of Battle Rd because there is no open view to Olden on either side. A 4 way stop would be very helpful at this corner.

I'm sorry if my comments at all suggested that I am not worried about the fast traffic coming down and then back up Olden Lane from Mercer Street. We have a 3 and 4-year old so if anyone shares and empathizes with your concerns it is our family.

We have numerous touch points - Bus stops, no side walks, IAS commercial traffic, and folks whose GPS units send them down Olden Lane thinking they can connect to Rte 1.

By last count there are 27 children who live off Olden Lane - on Battle Rd, Haslett, Ober, Newlin and the Institute's private roads.

We have lots of runners, joggers, folks walking their dogs and sight-seers.

I am full agreement - and I worry that nothing will be done until someone gets hurt.

We are a neighborhood, we are families, we have a voice.

It has been ignored but clearly, the voices of many are better than a few.

Last night 99 people read our neighborhood's concern, tonight as I write this 110 people are now reading this dialog.

This is powerful.

We should organize, we have resources and effect the change we seek.

It is winter - perhaps President's Day we can formulate a cohesive plan to present to the town to address our concerns.

I reported this issue over a month ago and nothing has been done; this morning at 7:50 cars were coming down on Olden Ln from Mercer Rd at a very high speed. What does it mean the issue has been acknowledged? How long do we have to wait until something is done at this corner to reduce the speed of cars coming into the neighborhood?

This poor little guy is right now bleeding out on the road on Olden after being run over by a speeding car. How long is it going to be before it's you, me, one of our kids, or pets?

The issue is still happening not sure why is being closed. The sign down the road did not fix the speeding in the neighborhood; cars speed over the limit before getting to the sign and only reduce the speed a little bit when they see their speed, which usually shows more than 25 mph even after they slowed down. Trying to cross Olden Ln from Battle Rd in any direction is dangerous, cars don't stop for pedestrians (even if they see kids). When driving on Battle Rd you have to get the car out to Olden to look for cars coming in both directions, cars come down speeding and the vision is very limited. A 4-way stop is much needed in this corner.

Agreed Tamara. I called and left a voicemail for Sgt. Murray on Monday about the very and thing you mention here- people driving down Olden (away from Mercer) and they're going 50 mph when they cross the intersection with Battle and then slam on their breaks when they see the radar sign a bit further on. This morning there was a manned police car at the intersection which was a nice gesture. Now we need a permanent solution.

In addition to increase patrol presence and selective enforcement details in the area, a speed monitoring sign has remained on constant deployment on Olden Lane (with the exception to brief removals for maintenance) in order to help address expressed speeding concerns. The Traffic Safety Bureau has also worked with the Department of Public Works in order to address expressed sight distance concerns at the intersection of Battle Road and Olden Lane and was successful at drastically improving the sight distances at the intersection, especially along the south west corner. A crash investigation study of this intersection has also revealed that it does not currently meet the mandates for a 4-way stop. However, the Traffic Safety Bureau will closely monitor the intersection for any changes that might arise. The Traffic Safety Bureau is also looking at opportunities to change advanced warning signage as it relates to the current student bus stop location at the corner of Olden Lane and Battle Road.

The Traffic Safety Bureau will continue to remain committed to addressing all expressed traffic safety concerns in the area.
