This camp makes me unwilling to walk on that side of the street, forcing me to walk on the other side through the heaps of pigeon poop that nobody will clean up despite numerous complaints.

This is exactly why the city needs to step up and make a campsite just for the homeless with sanitary facilities. I guess the sit, lie law doesn't exist, obstruction of a public sidewalk, illegal dumping laws don't exist either. If nothing else these encampments are a health issue too everyone, the homeless and the public who have to breathe in the smell walking by. The only time I've seen the police around encampments is when PW's cleans up.

The issue is hardly closed. When the city came out to "cleanup" the sidewalk, all they did was move the tents and trash over the fence into the Coltrane property. Now instead of having a ton of trash and homeless on the sidewalk they are behind a chain link fence. Great job Oakland, I'm glad my tax dollars are hard at work.

That's exactly what they do. This cat and mouse game with the homeless needs to end. These encampments are unhealthy to all and they are unsafe to the neighborhood. Sit lie law, illegal dumping, theft, most likely drugs, why don't the laws apply to the homeless?
