I would like to assure you that the City’s water is safe to drink. The City’s water is tested at the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) laboratory six times a day prior to leaving the WTP to ensure all customers receive high quality drinking water that meets or exceeds all state and federal regulatory requirements. Additionally, staff test the drinking water weekly at several locations throughout the City. The City performs over 9,000 tests on our water annually. For a summary of the results, please review the City’s Water Quality Annual Report. https://www.ci.benicia.ca.us/wqr
Recently the City switched water sources from January 13 through Tuesday January 17th before returning to our original source, and during this transition, customers may have noticed a difference in taste and/or odor. During the water treatment process, algae and other organics are filtered out but some organic compounds may remain. While not a health or safety concern, certain organic compounds may cause a slight musty or earthy taste or smell to sensitive populations.

Ms. Rose,
As of January 2023, the 2023 Annual Water Quality Report has not been completed. A notice will be sent to the public when the annual report is published.
Generally, raw lab data is generally not published to the public. However, I'd be happy to discuss daily lab testing data and discuss the water treatment process with you, please feel free to contact me directly at mbautista@ci.benicia.ca.us or at 707.746.4294.

Ms. Rose,
Potable Water data is available to the public but the City does not maintain an online database or publish any data other than the Annual Water Quality Report.
The State has a public web portal where you can review all Public Water Supply Systems which includes City data. The website is located at https://sdwis.waterboards.ca.gov/PDWW/
Once you get to the portal, the City's water System Number is: 4810001.
Again, I'd be happy to discuss, please feel free to contact me directly at mbautista@ci.benicia.ca.us or at 707.746.4294.
