I don't mind the deleivery trucks as much because they are on the job ,and are large vehicles that can not get in and out of areas as easily as cars. my problem is with private cars and taxis , who feel the bikelane as their own parking lot and also don't seem to worry about opening doors onto the traffic side vs the pavement side.
on daily basis this happens so much , I asked a bike cop what the rules are for the bike lanes, and the answer was ,it's up to the car drivers to give you the right of way, IN THE BIKE LANE?
I have had these instances with the cars doing this infront of Cops and ...Nothing. it sounds like it is a good samaritan rule ?, and not the rule of the road; even though we have clear signs up .
I think the better solution for a bike lane would have been what Ed Rendall had proposed , to take one street and make it a full bike lane , one side going one way and the other the opposite direction, no cars aloud on it , period.

Saturday the 15 October ,we rode at 4:30pm on spruce street bike lane from 3rd to 17th, there were parked cars ,counted 4 in the blocks of 400 to 600 , we had 2 cars around 11th to broad use the bike lane as a passing lane because the traffic was going too slow for them? and again at 15th-16th street.
on our way back on Pine street bike lane from 17th street down at about 6:30pm there was a police car with flashing lights in the bike lane using the lane as it had pulled over a car and writing them up. with very little room we had to swerve around that with full traffic going on in the dark in the next lane.

The taxis are the worst they will go right in front of a bicycle in a split second and just stop if it means they can get a fare. I have alerted the PPA a few times to vehicles blocking this no parking anytime lane and they don't seem too interested in enforcing it. PPA is the whole reason I ride a bike.

The biggest problem is delivery trucks whhours after Church services are over and the churches are dark.

Where's the enforcement, this is not just short unloading which we all expect.

I have experienced this it's very dangerous and when I called the police they said they could not do anything.

today the 19th of november 3pm, i rode my bike to 3rd and spruce to ride uptown to broad street , , begining right at the corner of 3rd and spruce the bike lane was blocked by parked cars, I counted 8 between 3rd and 4th.
there was another 8 cars between 4th and 5th, 10 cars between 5th and 6th ,11 cars between 6 and 7th and the wapper of it all 14 cars parked in the bike lane between 7th and 8th. had to be zig zagging thourgh traffic and pedestrians all through out ,i was sharing the road with 4 other cyclists that came from behind and front. onmy way back I came down chestnut to 6th , I have no idea why they have a bike and bus lane there no car driver seems to car about those rules and signs, i got down 6th to pine street to get to my safe bike lane . well same thing it began from 6th allthe way down to front it was completly blocked by parked cars , I even over heard one guy getting in his car saying Oh parking is great on this street.
WHY ? WHY did they even Bother if the police and the city were not going to enforce this rule of the Road. i think the only time they will sit up and pay attention is when there is a tragedy...plus video.I have the idea of having a video camera going everytime I am going up and down the bike lanes.

Bicycle Nazis!

I have a major problem with bikers. Never stop at stop signs, go through red lights, ride in the middle of the street. Many don't want those laws enforced against bikers, but they want to enforce the bike lanes. Give respect, Get respect!

Bikers do these things so they don't hold up traffic or get run over. Think about it do you want a biker riding through the light in the bike lane on your right when the light turns green? I have actually been hit by a car turning right b/c i was first, waited at the light and then proceeded when light turned green and an car eager to turn hit the gas. Drivers are the one operating heavy machinery. Cyclists need a bike lane b/c without it cyclists are exposed to the heavy machinery often driven by self centered egomaniacs.

The stretch from 3rd to 20th on spruce , the bike lane has still not resolved, it is constantly bing used astruck parking or parking for some event or another, taxi cab pick up and drop off area, and my favorite a passing lane , on the right hand side.

the issiue with the bike lane beginig at 3rd and spruce and on still is chronically blocked by parked cars, from 3rd to 6th it gets horrible because of a church , it goes on for blocks parked cars bumper to bumper, I dont understand what the rules are if these people have no respect for them. we noticed and App Now from the police or the parking authority asking the cyclist to help by photographing these blocks and uploading them to their site, is this real?

2 days ago I was on that street ,in the bike lane ,about 20 yards ahead of me was a bicycle Cop riding, came up to a truck and 2 cars parked right in the Bike lane ,I thought for sure he would stop get off the bike and ticket these guys...!! instead he swerved around them and kept on riding ,back in the bike lane .this was at 10th and spruce. so if the bike Cops aren't enforcing the Law for the Bike lanes ,what chance of safety do we have as cyclists???? who does one complain to about that? NOT the police thats for sure!

PPA is the authority responsible for issuing tickets for those cars parked(stopped?) in the bicycle lanes. Not the police. Check this article out. Stopping in the bike lane may be legal if the block has a "No Parking" sign.

issue remains ,still blocked and putting cyclist in harms way, never seen a single motorist get a ticket while blocking the way.
