SCROG review and Main Streets CT reports both suggest "t-ing" Fountain into Whalley, a circle, or other reconfigurations of this intersection. This would be a significant project and thus neighbors and users of these roads will have to work together to move this forward.

Agreed that the ped-activated solution suggested above is a short-term fix.

A drawing of the proposed Whalley/Fountain realignment is on page 31. This seems like a good long-term solution, resulting in a safer crossing, calmer traffic, additional on-street parking, elimination of a dangerous merge and right turns from Whalley onto West Rock, and wider sidewalks. Take a look and please weigh in.

The section on transportation and traffic-calming starts on page 25. A modern roundabout at Whalley & Fountain would require the "taking" of property, so is unlikelier to happen than the above scenario.

It requires community groups to move it forward. And what are the leaders among Westville's community groups doing besides furtively stating that on SCF years after the guiding documents were published and in their hands? Sheesh. If you want to move it forward, move it forward.

The traffic signal control equipment in this area is not capable of handling an additional crosswalk phase. The reason why this pedestrian signal is covered, is because when it was in use, the additional phase caused an increase in traffic back-up. However, pedestrians are able to use the ped signals on Fountain & Central, Whalley & West Rock and Whalley & Central.
