This amount of rainfall in a short period of time causes flash flooding which the City experienced yesterday in many different locations. Surrounding Cities and County’s received similar or worse flooding during this storm event. When I raised concern with the flooding which has grown worse as the wholesale redevelopment of Meadow Brook Hills and Milton Estates, I was told it wasn't the City's responsibility, and that it is the homeowner's problem. So I spent the best part of two days clearing debris from Foe Killer Creek behind my home and into the property next door. Bags and bags of stuff. And it did not really make much difference. Today I call start clearing the mess that yesterday's flood delivered. And again I see it is not the City's problem. Maybe when the water begins to impact those million dollar place to the east of lowly Milton Glenn will the City take an interest in fixing the drainage issues those home have so contributed to.

In 2009 there was catastrophic flooding caused by rain that exceeded the amount recently received recently. The water levels in the area I am discussing were nowhere near as high as was yesterday, or has been recently, even with moderately heavy rains. This is caused by the increase in cement footprint of the larger homes being built and the lack of consideration for the increased runoff. The city has acknowledged this problem by posting surveys in the Upshaw area asking how the increased water runoff is effecting owners. There has been no consideration for what the increased runoff is doing downstream!

So, my response was blocked? Because I called out the City for blowing off the concerns of the impacted residents? Amazing

Mr. Anderson, the City does not block comments that "call out" the City. In fact, the most that we do is "flag" a comment for review, and that is done only in the instance of someone using profanity, etc. Were you trying to upload a large photo or video image along with the comment that was rejected? If so, perhaps it exceeded a file size limitation inherent to the SeeClickFix platform.

Yes, tearing down the small homes and building large new homes with significantly larger square feet of roofing and resulting rain water runoff is a huge problem. I brought this up with the city 3 years ago and they told me they had no requirements for the new larger home, the runoff and flooding was my problem as the down hill neighbor.

This issue has NOT been addressed. City of Alpharetta do not close this thread before addressing what steps you will take to require new construction sites to handle their own water runoff. This is not a new concept it is required in almost all surrounding jurisdictions. Just not Alpharetta. The tax paying citizens demand their representative address this problem and solve it. You work for us.

Most of the area that drains to Foe Killer Creek upstream of 3120 Maple Lane is residential. In December 2020 the city updated our ordinances to require the following measures be taken on all residential additions, pools, redevelopments, and rebuilds:
• Any development adding 1,000-4,999 sf of impervious pavement, roof, or other hard surface is required to design and install a stormwater runoff reduction measure such as an infiltration trench or engineered rain garden. The intent is for this new hard surface to drain to this measure and soak in the first inch of water runoff.
• Any development adding or replacing 5,000 sf or more of impervious pavement, roof, or other hard surface is required to design and install a full detention measure. This measure is designed by a professional engineer to infiltrate the first inch of rain and slow down the remaining runoff to predevelopment rates. Most of the practices used to accomplish this in residential lots are underground vaults, pipes, or rock filled trenches.

what is the plan to address the damage done before you implented this in 12/20. Are the recent large new builds going to be required to handle their own rain water runoff? The existing homes deserve answers and resolution now.
