In 2008 City Council approved the discontinuation of the City dandelion control program. This means that the City of Grande Prairie does not spray herbicides to control dandelions in neighbourhood parks, public utility lots or boulevards. Dandelion control is still performed on irrigated turf areas such as intensively used sports fields and Jubilee Park. Public opinion surveys continue to support Council’s decision to not use pesticides solely for improved aesthetics rather than to protect the health of the grass. The Parks department is responsible for mowing the park and this is done on a bi-weekly service level standard. Thank you for relaying your concern.

I am aware of the choice not to use herbicides. I support it as well. I did not mention herbicides in my submission. I think this park would benefit from grass seed. The year it was originally seeded was a fairly dry year, the seed did not take and weeds took over. Seeding the park with grass may help displace some of the weeds.

I do not want the city to spray herbicides on this park for aesthetic reasons. I would like some grass seed spread. I doubt the city has a policy against spreading grass seed on park where the original application did not take.
