It's not about bothering them. It is about following the written law.
Years ago, the citizens voted to stop all of these motorhomes from being parked in the neighborhood. Some never moved and starting renting them out. To stop this, law was passed that these homes can only be parked for 3 days.
Thank you for contacting the City of Antioch. We have referred your issue to the Parking Enforcement - Abandoned Autos Unit (AAU) of the Police Department (PD). Please allow up to 30 – 60 days for the matter to be resolved.
Through the AAU, the City of Antioch is committed to keeping our city streets clean. Antioch Municipal Code4-5.1206 requires that all vehicles parked on the street need to be operable, registered and moved every 72 hours. If a vehicle is not operable, but registered, it must be placed out of public view and/or in an enclosed structure. For further information on abandoned vehicles, please visit AAU’s website: https://www.antiochca.gov/police/abandoned-autos-unit/.
The AAU is also responsible for investigation any complaints regarding recreational vehicles/RV’s, boat and/or trailers. City of Antioch Municipal Code4-5.1223.1 states that no person shall park any recreational vehicle, as defined, on any street in any residential district except when such recreational vehicle is being actively loaded, unloaded, cleaned or repaired, and then for a period not to exceed 24 hours. For more information, please visit AAU’s website: https://www.antiochca.gov/police/abandoned-autos-unit/.
If follow up communication is desired on your complaint, please contact the AAU hotline directly at 925-779-6981. Please do not contact the Public Works Department (PWD) as staff at PWD are unable to provide any status updates.
For time sensitive issues affecting the general public please contact the Police Department at 925-778-2441. If there is an emergency, please call 911.
We are all neighbors!!! In a cool Quiet neighborhood! As a matter of fact go ring the door bell . The people are very nice . And it has not been there for weeks . It’s been moved already . Total BS . There are other situations that need to be addressed other a man and his family parking there RV .
Ring the door bell next time instead of telling on here . Tell him to move it .
It was parked there for weeks! Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about! I did notice it was gone this morning as I drove down the street. If there are things that need to be fixed then do something about it! If I had to guess you are another person who thinks they can do anything they want.
I’m not a Karen of the neighborhood like yourself . If it was such a issue . Knock on there door instead of hiding behind the email !
I follow rules as well . But this was BS . And petty ! As I said if it bugged you so bad ….. knock on there door and tell them !
Lol ! Petty would have been to post this on day 4 of it sitting there. Not weeks later! I don’t need to hide behind this. I do find it funny that you are so upset about something that doesn’t concern you. Btw it’s their not there.
Another Karen… Wow
Knock on the door and tell him how you feel about his RV ! Don’t hide on this app . Just go over and speak your mind ! That’s all you have to do !
I see some of us are mad that we may not have travel trailer . Sometimes you have to keep it outside . It is petty to report it . It’s also not a neighborly thing to report one another to the city over something so small . If we can all get along we would have a better area to live in . I’m sure the family was not gonna keep it there any longer . I live a several blocks away . He is a nice man and his wife . You all enjoy and let this rest . The travel trailer is gone now . I just was on my Daily walk and I did not see it .
If you start making excuses for violating's the law for someone who is very nice but then want to enforce it to someone whom you do not know, well that is wrong.
The law applies to everyone or not one at all.
You do not like the law, change it.
But remember this...
Back in 2006, we had so many issues with Motorhomes / trailers. Some was parked for months falling apart, some did not even had tires. It was a clear eyesore to drive down the street. Vandalism was on the rise in the areas of the huge motor homes, most likely because they blocked the view of the home, thus making it easier to break in.
Some brought broken down motor homes and trailers and rented them out. Cords coming from the home to the street making a tripping hazard for the disable. Home values dropped and more residents moved out thus renting their homes. Since this law went into effect, and for other reasons, more people are staying in Antioch providing that their neighborhood is safe. Don't get me wrong, their are still some neighborhoods that have people renting that simply do not care about their neighborhood. Those areas are challenging at best.
I think many remember those times and do not want a repeat of history.
Example . The house up the hill that had squatters and now it’s burned down . The police had been called and all sorts of complaints . And nothing was done . Someone could have died or been hurt behind the city not doing anything at all . Now who ever the actual owner is has a massive bill and the neighborhood looks even worse .
Observer, The house up the street is a huge problem. But again, the authorities hand are tired due to current laws enforced by the State. Politicians wanted the votes from individuals whom squat at these homes. The law protects squatters, not the neighborhood or owner of the home.
If you want to change the law, maybe you should vote differently than you are currently doing? Maybe we all should take a hard look at what is and is not happening. Voting induvial into office whom do nothing but have a nice smile and makes promises and do nothing should be replaced.
Those whom want change, then change who you have been voting for that is in office. Time for some new blood.
Yes let’s please all vote for change! Code enforcement has been charging me and treating me like a criminal for having my RV in my driveway. It’s well taken care of and registered. But I can’t have my own RV on my own property because code enforcement is focused on low hanging fruit like me to be just another piggy bank, because I have a job and something to lose.
Hmmmm Bill so they are bugging you about your Rig ? They are bugging lots of people in the area . It’s not cool . If the home was built with room for a RV what’s the issue . It’s not all torn up . They came to my home and told me I could not have my work trailer there . So I put it behind the fence . Them another complaint about some other stuff . I went down there with a lawyer for Harrassing me . They stopped
Bill, The City Ordinance was written, voted on and approved by the Citizens of Antioch in 2007. A grandfather clause was put into the Ordinance that allowed anyone who got a permit at that time could still have 1 trailer or 1 recreational vehicle in front of their home proving their was a cement pad for the placement of said vehicle.
The fee was $25 dollars for the permit and was not transferable if the home was sold or if the original permit holder moved to a new location, that person could not transfer the permit to his new residence. For those who have side yards, their homes went up in value because of this ordinance.
If buying your home, your Realtor should of done their job and told you of the ordinance.
This ordinance is also for the Cities of Brentwood, Clayton, Concord
Concord: Residents can store one RV or boat in the side yard behind a 6-foot fence, along with one more RV in the back yard — but no more than two total. People can park their RVs in the street for 72 hours before or after a trip. ( Same as Antioch )
Brentwood: Recreational vehicles, boats and trailers must be stored behind a solid 6 foot fence in the side or rear yard to screen them from public view. For more information, please see the Municipal Code section 17.620.016. (Same as Antioch)
City of Oakley: no more than two (2) trailer, camper, or boats may be parked or stored in the area of a home, but ONLY on a legally-established driveway. In following these codes of the Camper has to be 10 ft from the street, this basically eliminates parking in a residential zone with a lot size of 6,000 sq ft.
Even the CCC area of influence have similar restrictions.
Only Pittsburg and Richmond is open to RV Parking, but I heard that will be changing soon as well as people are using them as a apartment while parked in their driveway. That is what was happening in Concord, Antioch in 2007. Thus the ordinance was voted on by the Citizens of Antioch.
So I suggest you get a RV rental space or Buy a 1 acre lot in Oakley whereas you may park your RV 10ft from the property line.
Bottom line... Should of done your homework before you bought your home. If you asked the realtor about it, then I would sue for their commission since they did not do their job in informing you about the City Ordinances before you bought your home.
When we were looking to buy a home in 2000, we was looking at Brentwood. I really liked that city. My realtor advised me not to buy in Brentwood because of my business and the equipment I own. So we looked in Antioch and made sure we had a side yard large enough to park everything out of site. The home in Brentwood was 800 sq ft bigger, it was newer, nicer but did not have that side yard access. So we did not buy it. The lot was just big enough for the home to sit on,
So we bought the home in Antioch.
Did this cost me more than the Brentwood home? Yes it did. I paid 50k more for the home for this side yard access. The Kitchen and bathrooms was outdated, the landscape was dead, the house had dry riot, but we bought it because of the side yard access. My wife understood that we needed a side yard access and was willing to buy this house over the brand new home in Brentwood. I promised her we would remodeled the home and spare no expense and spent another 80k on the home. So we spent 130k over the brand new house in Brentwood just for that side yard access so that we can comply with the City Ordinances.
You will find that these homes with side yard access are at a premium now and is one of the reasons why people should look, ask questions and educate themselves before they buy. There is a reason why one home is costing 50k more than the same floor plan of the home around the corner.
If you want the toys, expect to be able to afford to store them appropriately. Alot of us don't want to look like we live in a used car lot or storage facility.
Be considerate, then you won't be reported. And as far as going up to the offenders, we should not have to.
We all know that if we allow motor homes, then why not trailers, if we allow trailers, why can't I park my boat on the street? Sure it's old and a little beat up, but it's in front of MY house.
Henceforth the existing laws people. Nobody cares for a day or two, but after that, move it.
It's the law. Antioch looks bad enough without having recreational vehicles parked on the road.
